On Friday 5th June 2015 four members of the branch set off for Snowdonia with the intention of climbing Mount Snowdon on 71st anniversary of “D Day” This however was a walk with a difference, with three of the members carrying something related to laundry and the art of “extreme ironing”
Aaron Gargett opted to haul a working tumble dryer to the summit whilst Shaun Perril and Matt Simonds opted for the ironing board and iron. Yours truly here carried plenty of water and safety equipment, just in case.
The challenge was successful and everyone made it to the top. Aaron managed to get to the summit in 2 hours 45 minutes, a good time, even for someone handicapped with such a load. The weather, whilst fine on the lower approaches became quite bad as the team neared the top, the small weather station at the top recorded gusts of up to 96 mph on a few occasions.
A big thanks must go to everyone on the mountain who showed support and who approached us to give money towards our poppy appeal.
Aaron said prior to taking up the challenge, “What I am doing on the anniversary of "D Day" comes nowhere near to what our veterans did for us and what our serving personnel do every day.”
As I write the adventure has raised about £1000 so far and the money giving page remains open at this time for all of those who wish to give a few pennies

Every penny will go towards the branch Poppy Appeal which is well on its way to a record breaking £24,000! Thank you to everyone who has supported us and our troops and veterans.
Hardwicke and District will once again be entering the Ypre4s 100km three day walk in May next year. If interested in such things, why not join the branch!
