Countdown to Safe
Summer Fun Day

There’s just one week to go until Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service’s first Safe Summer Fun Day on Saturday 19th July.

The summer fun day at Gloucester South Fire Station on Tuffley Road is free and will feature a host of activities from fire truck demonstrations, to go karts and face painting, as well as bringing home an important safe summer holiday message.

Visitors can also take a tour around the newest safety centre in the country, Skillzone, take part in a safety treasure hunt with the centre’s Staysafeatron robots, learn the rules of the road with Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership and take advantage of free bike safety checks and bike marking.

Flyers have been delivered to homes around the city to invite families to the day and provide summer safety advice for in the home, travel and on holiday.

Stewart Edgar, Chief Fire Officer for Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service, said: “The event is an opportunity to visit our award-winning safety centre and local fire station, as well as learn top tips to stay safe this summer.

“Simple measures such as preparing an escape route in the home or using designated safe areas for open fires if you are camping can help save lives.”

Will Windsor-Clive, cabinet member responsible for community safety, said: “With only days to go until the fun day takes place we are encouraging everyone to put the date in the diary. We want to make sure that people are having fun but at the same time taking simple steps to stay safe.”

In the lead up to the event, safe summer safety tips are being tweeted each day from @glosskillzone or can be found at:http://skillzone.glosfire.gov.uk/summer-safety-tips-for-families/
